What is Parentification?
Many people do not even know what Parentification is because it is usually never recognized. Parentification is when a child becomes the parent to their siblings or parents and the role of the parent and child switch. Some times people view that a child being mature can be a good thing but it can take a toll on someone's life later in life much like parentification.
The life that these children live in is hard because they are facing things that only adults should have to deal with. They are the people that their parents and siblings lean on when they need someone. They help in so many ways but sometimes only figure out that they were the parent in their family and did not get to experience their childhood like other children. |
I was forced to grow up too soon.” |
Kids should grow up so that they do not have to be the stronghold for there family. Sometimes that is not the case and they have to grow up so fast and not help others in a way that is not healthy for them. People should be concerned about parentification because it is changing children's lives each day and not for the better.
Not everyone's childhood is the same but you can affect others and children's lives. So we should live and love to help others grow and keep a healthy life so they can prosper when they are older. |
